Cabela's and Knutson's Donate Fishing Poles PDF Print E-mail

Many fishermen will tell you that fishing is a kind of therapy.  To quote Doug Larson (1924 Olympic Gold Medalist), “If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.”  Fortunately for the youth at our Boysville campus, that will not be a problem!  Through the generosity and support of Cabela’s and Knutson’s Sporting Goods our youth at the Clinton campus will have plenty of opportunities to cast a line and reel some fish in!  Between the two stores, more than twenty rods and reels have been donated for the boys to use to go fishing in the pond.  Holy Cross Children's Services (HCCS) would like to thank both of these businesses for making a difference in the lives of these kids.  Jim Knutson, owner of Knutson’s Sporting Goods, in Brooklyn, Michigan told us that he didn’t donate these for any type of recognition - it was just the right thing to do.  Steve Zollars, Events Coordinator for Cabela’s, the World’s Foremost Outfitter in Dundee, Michigan was glad to have the opportunity to give the boys an experience that they may never have had before. He noted that the donation was important because supporting youth in need is one of the core values of Cabela's.  Loren Brown, HCCS Executive Director, was all smiles as he received the donated equipment.  "A lot of therapy is taking place around that pond.  Not many people would have thought that Cabela's and Knutson's were in the therapy business.  Along with over 110 youth at our Clinton Campus, I'm glad they are our partners." A simple activity that has become a popular past time will continue to be thanks in part to the generosity and support of community focused businesses like Knutson’s Sporting Goods and Cabela’s.
